How gas flow design can influence the performance of a DBD plasma reactor for dry reforming of methane

DBD plasma reactors are commonly used in a static ‘one inlet – one outlet’ design that goes against reactor principles for multi-component reactions, such as dry reforming of methane (DRM). Therefore, this paper we have developed novel design, and investigated how the shape size reaction zone, well gradual gas addition, method mixing CO2 CH4 can influence conversion product composition DRM. Even standard direction flow (i.e. short or long path through reactor, which defines velocity at fixed residence time), dimensions zone power delivery to largely affect performance. Using addition separate activation zones individual gases give increased conversions within same operational parameters, by optimising ratios kinetics. The choice main (pre-activated) energy cost, while position during only influences distribution.
